So much for all those of you hoping Iran would improve with another mullah, below are the latest sentences for some dissidents :
Khosrow Seif 68 years old - 13 years prison,
Bahram Namazi 65 years old - 15 years prison,
Farzin Mokhber 58 years old - 15 years prison.'

Hope you are as prompt in condemning and protesting as you are in celebrating!!

Susan, LA, CA, USA - 01-Mar-2000
I wish Iran were as powerful as America to play the thug or the the humanist, but it is not. As such, it should stop feeding Syria millions of dollars and supporting the Hezbullah in Lebanon financially if not morally or politically, in order to be able to pay the past due wages of starving Mobliran and other factory workers. On the other hand, America should release at least a part of Iranian funds to help President Khatami's government to pay the past due wages and salaries of those suffering Iranians, who happen to approve ties with America.

Ardavan, Edinburgh, UK - 01-Mar-2000
Did you know that the demonstrators who often come to streets when Khamanehee asks are a group of people that get paid to do so. They are a large group may be 1000,000 in number that get paid only to demonstrate whenever it is required. Then Iran TV show them as representatives of the whole nation. This is the way that the regime has been cheating during last at least 10 years. You will see such demonstrations in future again, but the real Iranian people are those that took part in this parliament election and said no to Hashemi Rafsanjani as a representative to all others such as Khamanehee, yazdee, nategh nori, Ansarolah, askaroladi, safavi, shoraye negahban, Janati etc, etc.

Shardad, Glasgow - 01-Mar-2000
The election results is the first real step toward an open society in Iran after 20 years of destruction. The last 20 years of Mullas ruling in Iran brought nothing but misery for the country. The extent of damage to the country by inexperienced and uneducated so called managers was far far more than the damage of Iran Iraq war. More than 90 percent of sensitive positions in industries, educational centers, economical centers mass media etc are occupied by wrong people. It is extremely difficult to sort all these mess out. But lets hope for all these reforms since we are a patient nation.

Jafari, Shiraz, Iran - 29-Feb-2000
As we say in Shiraz, "I ate the ground and my father came out". and "I wanted to fix the head, the eyes went blind". We did the revolution to get more freedom and we ended up with Mr. Rafsanjani. He and his family robbed us out of our national pride, national wealth, our little freedom that we had. There are more drug addicts now than before, more prostitution, more corruption and more beards on the face of the people. We are a nation of "Mazloom" we always got the worse of the government. I only know that Akhond were the worst in our history. They are also the ugliest. May God save us from ourselves and phony Gods.

Abdullah Hayaki, Kurdistan, Iran - 29-Feb-2000
I am proud the people of Iran have begin to understand what democracy really means. It is time for freedom. I hope its going to start the changes we have all been waiting for.

Irani, Burke, US - 28-Feb-2000
Now Rafsanjani got elected in 30th place! I hope now he thinks Islam is in danger and he is going to bring his $4,000,000,000 to Iran to freed the Islam! or we are going to force him to bring the $4,000,000,000 people's money back to the Iranians. Thank you Iran for this wonderful record breaking election. Long live freedom.

Manouchehr, Falls Church, USA - 28-Feb-2000
I believe this election proved to the world that, the Iranian people are united and capable of running their country democratically. Also, deeply support true Islamic system of government. What has happened so far with all those ugly happening under the name of Islam was merely normal to any revolution which helped the Iranian to sort the opportunist from the true dedicated Iranian who will serve the country for the best, regardless of their social status: clergyman, civilian, religious or non-religious individuals.

'Wellborn', Tehran, Iran - 28-Feb-2000
The consensus of opinion here is that Mr Rafsanjani's election has not been fair, and some people maintain that some cheating has taken place. Taking the election result as a whole it must clear even to an mentally retarded person that the electorate does not trust the old clique and is announcing in the only way available to them that a major change of course is necessary. Of course, one hopes against hope those people who have been responsible for so much stupid and thoughtless abuse of the most elementary rights of the average person will not escape retribution . I hope that their masters also hear this message.

Ali, Tehran, Iran - 27-Feb-2000
I hope Mr Mohammadreza Khatami become the speaker of parliament not those are the last in Tehran's list of election.

Susan, LA, CA, USA - 27-Feb-2000
Right before the elections, Ms. Rafsanjani said, "like hejab?" Why? Does it make her look chic or prettier? Does it mean that she is a decent and honorable lady? If so, why does believe that women should be free to choose the way they dress; thus thus looking shabby, ugly, indecent and dishonorable? One more thing. A couple of days ago, she, implying that the elections were less than perfect, she remarked that few women were elected this time. Do you know why Ms. Rafsanjani? Women didn't want to vote for chador-wearing candidate. If they voted for a few, it was for other reasons. As a Persian proverb goes, "Az hobb-e Moaviye nist; az boghz-e Ali ast.

Sadie Abdi from KDP, Vancouver, Canada - 27-Feb-2000
That was a very good election and good point for Iranians.

Firooz, Mobil, USA - 26-Feb-2000
Rafsanjani is elected and reformers got the majority. Rafsanjani has been the most influential figure in IRI. He has his own Mafia of killing and destruction. I do not see any improvement in the situation and I do not think that the problem of killing intellectuals will be solved for ever. He leads the Mafia and he is mad, I think that the situation is getting worse than ever. I hope that I am wrong and the people get what they voted for.

Tabrizi ,Vancouver, Canada - 26-Feb-2000
This elections proved that if Iranian people might be granted freedom of speech and thought, the result of elections and the figures would be different. This is the start. No body can stop the trend of change and free speech in Iran. The world people is looking for answers in investigating the murder of Iranian writers and freedom fighters.
Yashasin Azadlig ytolunda mobarrezamiz.

Hossein - 26-Feb-2000
[On Rafsanjani's election] Looks like he DID get elected (30th, last on the list). Personally, I am happy he did get elected. I think with this defeat, he would have been more dangerous outside than he is inside the Parliament. As much as I do not like him, one can not deny his role, power, and importance in the Iranian Politics. I guess, we will have a lively parliament.

Salem, Canada - 25-Feb-2000
How you dress is not government business that is individual choice and it is very expensive for law makers to force the law for every individual to make sure they follow the dress code. No one wants to pay tax to government to watch people how they dress up, role of government has to be limited and they should keep away from people's privacy.

Sirous Jamalzadeh, London, UK - 25-Feb-2000
The Fath newspaper has carried out an electronic poll today. The first question is which political party do you feel closest to. Iran Freedom Party - Nehzat Azadi- comes top by a clear majority. Yet - correct me if I am wrong - the IFP has only had one candidate allowed to stand in the entire elections. So much for democracy!

Welborn, Tehran, Iran - 25-Feb-2000
Its plain that most of the commentators in this site are based abroad judging by their main concern which is about compulsory hejab. Important as this subject is to both women and men in Iran, it is fair to say that it is not our main concern. Indeed removal of the Hejab entails no major expenditure on the part of the government but creating eight hundred thousand jobs a year to keep down already appalling unemployment is another matter. Cultural reform is highly sought after but the deciding factor in the survival of the present system will be their ability to grapple with the thorny problem of unemployment. Maybe the reason the focus is on hejab is because it is identified as the cornerstone of the Islamic Republic and it is thought by some that its removal will weaken the foundations of the IRI.

Hamid, LA, California, USA - 24-Feb-2000
I hope the next chair would be elected, from non-clerics representatives.

Salem, Canada - 24-Feb-2000
fairness is first step for democracy can we learn how to be fair to each other is not easy but we have to learn if we like to share benefit of share we have to make fair rules and respect the rules.

Shahab, London, UK - 24-Feb-2000
Unfortunately some people are quick to get on the bandwagon of euphoria. So far the Participation party- 'Mosharekat'- candidates have been labeled reformists.  Well here is an exact quote from one of these reformists elected in the birthplace of president Khatami, Ardakan in Yazd : ''Most women want to wear the hejab, because it is part of Islam.'' .
As they say in Persian : 'Zood shekametoon raa saaboon nazanid !.'

Karim, J, Stockholm, Sweden - 24-Feb-2000
Hi everyone,
Well I have not so much hope for any big change for next 5 years, but I am proud the people of Iran have begin to understand what democracy really means.

Alireza, San Jose, CA USA - 24-Feb-2000
After 21 years of repression Iranian people deserve a free country. They have to fight for it hard. This is the start of a new beginning.

Abu Bakar Mohd Rashid, Malaysia - 24-Feb-2000
I was in Iran in 1990 and not surprised with the result of the election. I noticed that my Iranian friends were more interested in watching Oshin than other programmes especially religious programmes.

Arrokk, Berkeley, CA, USA - 24-Feb-2000
Hi everyone.
Usually the thoughtful people plan the revolution, the brave people implement the revolution and thugs and opportunists manage the revolution. There are two ways to rule or you break the head or you count the head I am glad that the the Iranian have chosen the second one. Cheers

Raha, Chicago, IL, USA - 23-Feb-2000
Although the victory of reformists is very encouraging but I hope they don't go too far left. I guess the lesson that should be learned is that extremist (left or right) is not fruitful.

G - Reza - J, Denver , Co , USA - 23-Feb-2000
Watch out western democracy, Islamic democracy is evolving in Iran , a democracy that money has not much of a saying in electing the representatives of people. When Islam is mixed with true faith and knowledge no power can stop its progressive momentum, as both Mr Khatami and his brother posses. History has illustrated that in the past, and God willing you will see it in Iran in the future, Allah Akbar.

Hooshang Nahavandi, Scotland, UK - 24-Feb-2000
G- Reza, what are you doing living in the US? Go back to Iran, follow the mullahs blindly just like your parents did 20 years ago and ruined Iran. This Islamic democracy you are on about has excluded 6000 [correction: 600] candidates by the 'guardian council' before the elections began. Why ?. What are they afraid of?. I think you know the answer

Kamran, Arizona, USA - 23-Feb-2000
I am so proud to be an Iranian. Iranian people will be victorious in their struggle for justice and freedom. God bless Iran and Iranians.

Mohsen, Pompano Beach, FL, USA - 23-Feb-2000
This would have been a great single event in our homeland, but I am afraid that it is really impossible to achieve any fundamental freedom when all power is concentrated in the domain of the right wing clergy in general and Khamenei in particular. Think about it for just a minute, any reform amendment coming from the Majlis or the Executive branch can and will be vetoed by either the Guardians or Khamenei!!! I hope to be proven wrong in the upcoming year(s). I want nothing but simple freedom for my people and I hope they can finally achieve it.

Ramin, USA - 23-Feb-2000
I'm soooo happy.
:-)))

Arash, Houston ,TX, USA - 23-Feb-2000
I think that the Iranian people showed the west and the united states their longing of democracy and freedom. The Iranian people are tired of being pushed around and it is time for freedom.

Ron, Ancaster, Ontario, Canada - 23-Feb-2000
I wish to travel to Iran someday. However, with strict Islamic rule, tourists may not always have a pleasant time. Hopefully, with the reformist victory, tourists will be able to move about more freely in this great and ancient land. Mashallah.

Abas, Vancouver, Canada - 23-Feb-2000
Great! Long live democratic system.

Iraj, USA - 23-Feb-2000
Iranian emerged from the kind of Mongol, Alexander, Arabs, Teymoor and they will also will succeed in throwing these "bevatan" Mullah. Zende BAd.

Arash, Vancouver, Canada - 22-Feb-2000
Iranian said:1-NO Islamic regime 2-NO dictator 3-NO Hejab *1-YES real political parties*2-YES total freedom *3-YES democracy *Congratulation Iranians*

Ali, Irvine, CA, USA - 22-Feb-2000
Congratulations to our Iranian brothers and sisters. Indeed, this election was "historic". As James Rubin, Ms. Albright's speaker has called this election. It has baffled the Western world who always proud themselves for their democratic elections. Almost 6000 candidates for 290 seats with more than 89% of eligible voters casting their votes. This "historic" election will teach other countries in the region the alphabet of democracy. My hat off to all Iranians.

Bahram, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - 22-Feb-2000
Time for female speaker of Majles
It's the time that a female speaker be appointed for the new Majles.
Being the 2-nd vote-getter in Tehran, the choice is present.
This will surely facilitate passing good laws for women and the family.
This will improve the confidence of us that the change is possible.
This will improve Iranian woman's value in the international scene.

Mohammad Veyseh, Irvine, CA, USA - 22-Feb-2000
Very pleased and proud as an Iranian, to see we finally are tasting the Democracy and free election. I do hope that the people who are running the system will listen and do what the people want from them, even if they don't agree with them. That is the Democracy, the will of the people regardless.

Samad, Canada - 22-Feb-2000
Getting together forgiving the pain starting new life all of us for new strong Iran gun has to be in hand of those who are with people and follow their law and interest with great knowledge and respect for democracy

'Wellborn', Tehran, Iran - 22-Feb-2000
I smell a rat.

Ali Araghi, Tehran, Iran - 22-Feb-2000
Every one is happy with the election results. Indeed this is the second time after Khordad 2nd 76,that our people are going to believe the power of their votes. I hope that Democracy be stabilized finally.

Parry, Mission Viejo, CA USA - 22-Feb-2000
I am proud of young Iranians. who are so intelligent. They could show the World that they don't want a religious regime.

Arvand, Toronto, Canada - 22-Feb-2000
First it was the presidency and now the Majlis and then..., We are onthe winning track!!

Soheila, 'somewhere' - 22-Feb-2000
I am so happy Iranians didn't care Rafsanjani. They just ignored him and Khamenei but, still wondering who voted for some conservatives to win some seats in this election. I am sure they were not Iranian.

Amir, Sydney, Australia - 22-Feb-2000
I hope finally the Iranian women don't have 2 wear the hejab anymore, the government should decide so we can see all there beautiful princess faces.

Amir Z., Germany  - 21-Feb-2000
1979 Islamic revolution
2000 Iranian revolution!

Long live Iran!

Goodarz, LA, California  - 21-Feb-2000
It is real pleasure to see we value our right to vote and we see the difference this a new start god bless IRAN

Behzad, Tehran, Iran - 21-Feb-2000
[On the Rafsanjani article by Dilip Hiro] What utter nonsense. We hate Rafsanjani and all his corrupt family.

Faghani, Tehran, Iran - 21-Feb-2000
[On the Rafsanjani article by Dilip Hiro] You don know Iranians, because if you did, you would not write above article. Rafsanjani has no chance in election. Wait and see!

Ali, Tehran, Iran - 21-Feb-2000
Congratulation to Everybody!!!
We need to this big change. I hope we have a lot of improvements in everything.

Nima, Denmark - 21-Feb-2000
I believe people once more said NO to the rullers of Iran. This movement is not revocable and Iranians have found themselves and they know what they want- I hope -. They should not just be satisfied with the nice word, they hear from so called reformists. they should demand action and move further and we should support them.

Ali, Saudi Arabia - 21-Feb-2000
Congratulations to Iran people

Behrooz, UK - 21-Feb-2000
Supposing the so-called 'reformists' win all the seats. So what?. The supreme leader can veto the parliament and the president. The security services, armed forces and radio and TV are all in the hands of the supreme leader and the conservatives. How can anyone think the parliament in Iran really matters. The only conclusion one can draw from the elections is that Iranians do not  want the mullahs and given the candidates that are pre-selected for them, they always choose the ones that the supreme leader doesn't support.

Azad, London, UK - 21-Feb-2000
This all sound so nice.
I hope its going to start the changes we have all been waiting for. But unless the Iranian farmers/workers can learn the meaning of personal freedom, the rights of individual, I am not so optimistic. Our masses must understand freedom so that they can not be so easily lead by the next group or person using them to achieve own goals. Let hope something positive would come out of all this.

Mosadegh, USA - 21-Feb-2000
Sorry , but i am mad at Albright. This anti-Aryan so called woman, wants to steal Iranians assets. Iranian assets in USA belongs to Iranians after we established a democratic government. This damn lady is talking too much protest against her. This is not the time to ask for money damn her.

'Welborn', Tehran, Iran - 21-Feb-2000
In my first comment I predicted the result of the elections. In particular " a humiliating defeat for Mr Rafsanjani that will put an end to his political ambitions for a time". How do seasoned political operators make such appalling misjudgments? Firstly, Powerful men without the constraints and guidance of democratic support systems become tyrants and justify anything to maintain themselves or their system of thought. Secondly, there are times when the wind of change is so great that the accumulated wisdom and logic no longer helps to determine the best course. I suspect both these factors apply to Mr Rafsanjani. I hope the reformists take note.

Irani, 'somewhere' - 21-Feb-2000
Everhting must be done under the law and so I should wait for the next Khobregan's election. If these new guys do their job, that next Khobregan will be people's vote. They will ask Mr.Khamenei to step down.

Shiva, Frankfurt, Germany - 21-Feb-2000
Congratulations to the victory of the Iranian people, who wishes freedom not state terrorism! I am happy to see, that Ms. Mirhosseini's propaganda for Faezeh Hashemi didn't work out. A bamdad-e khomar for all conservatives.

Mohammad, London, UK - 20-Feb-2000
You know I rather be an idealist than a cynic on this historic day, what is clear to me is that this is a definite turning point, yes there will be problems ahead, yes the parliament may not deliver as promised, yes Khatami may not end up being everything we hope him to be, but once you open the mouths of people it's difficult to shut them, once you sew freedom it's going to be tough to stop it growing, democratization of Iran may take a long time to reach maturity, but today, it took a big step towards getting there.

Reza, Orlando, FL, USA - 20-Feb-2000
You need to take a look at the election result. Rafsanjani will nto be the Speaker of the House. He is a sneaky political figure who would do any thing to look good in the eyes of the people regardless of the result or intention. The conservative were hoping he can save them from the victory of reformist in this election. People are not buying his cry for freedom anymore. He is out of Business! of politics. His performance in more than ten years is the best reference to analyze his political statement.

Farshid Jamshidian, London, UK - 20-Feb-2000
The only reform program that I am aware of in Khatami's agenda is to register a $100 billion debt in Iran's account with IMF, and to pay for it by privatization of state industry and natural resources, including Iran's oil and gas reserves. For this purpose, the constitution will be changed if needed, and the so-call Free Economic Zone serves as the financial vehicle. Whether IMF will actually give Iran the money, and to whose pocket it will go, is another question, but the "reformists" are hopeful to participate in the of a ripple effect. BBC and CNN will keep reminding us the "reform" was endorsed by 85% of the electorate. Remember Yelsin's "reforms" ...

Nima, London UK - 20-Feb-2000
A step towards democracy
I hope that our dear Persia will become soon a great democratic country.

Iradj, Paris, France - 20-Feb-2000
congratulations to all my fellow compatriots. Today is really a historical day. We can truly talk of a 2nd revolution. I am so proud to be an Iranian and it's really such a nice day. Thanks again so much to all the Iranians who vote yesterday, they showed how much mature they are and how great is their belief in democratic changes instead of violent ones. I want to thank ayatollah Khamenei too, despite everything he did in the past, he said that he won't go instead the decision made by the people, if that is not democracy then how do you call that?

Sarah, Brussels, Belgium - 20-Feb-2000
Zendebad IRAN

'Me', Toronto, Canada - 20-Feb-2000
The losers are:
Ali Khamenei, Massoud Rajavi
The winners are: everybody else!

Mehran, Moscow, Russia - 20-Feb-2000
this election put an end to the romanticism period which was prevailing after victory of the revolution. its consequences will be more rationalism in domestic and foreign policy. I hope so.

Afshin, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - 20-Feb-2000
It is a great day to be an Iranian. As a member of that nation, I congratulate my compatriots back home for their show of support and level of involvement in the well being of our country. I wish for a day when we will be all a part of creating a brighter future for our brave nation.

Karim, Lanark - 20-Feb-2000
Any party who act against molas will win in Iran. The people follow the least available. If the could vote against Khamenei or hejab or even the whole revolution they would. This does not mean they want the Shah back. They need freedom and progress. They should believe in a democratic society out of which every other thing will emerge.

Sahel - 20-Feb-2000
The election result is a step in the right direction for Iran. Congratulate to the courageous people of Iran. Iran needs reform and Iranian are trying hard to get it. Please stop taking the result of election personally! If you have any problem with Islam or an Islamic government doesn't mean more than 30 million people voted because of what you think. They did not vote for Islam either. They have voted for reform and if you were in Iran you knew what that means. Iran for all of Iranian...

Cyrus, USA - 20-Feb-2000
Iranians have demonstrated that they desire democracy, freedom of thought, individual freedom, and an elected government that brings progress and prosperity to the nation of Iran. Iran should belong to all Iranians with any frame of thoughts or ideas.

Shiva, Frankfurt , Germany - 20-Feb-2000
Congratulations to all Iranians inside and outside. Though it will be still a long way to real freedom in Iran, I have no doubt that this election marks an important step to achieve it. Change is gonna come...
zende bad Iran

Shrwin, Dubai, UAE - 20-Feb-2000
Iranians don't want more Islamic system and thy want to say down with Islam of Khomeini and Islam of Rajavi

Kobra, Qom, Iran - 20-Feb-2000
What the hell is going on here. I am sick and tired of you guys being so negative about Iran. Give the noble people of Iran a little credit. They know exactly what they are doing and what  they are going for.

A. Irani, Albany,NY, USA - 20-Feb-2000
Nothing will come out of this so called reformist election victory as long as the ultimate power stays with Khamenei. There has been 20 years of broken promises for better life and Democracy, this will be another one.

Nader, Toronto, Canada - 20-Feb-2000
A historic day for Iran. Remember democracy does come from documents, it emerges from struggle. These elections are a step in the right direction. I credit the courageous journalists in Iran for liberalizing Iranian society and holding the powerful accountable. Thank you. We all are in your debt. To the Iranian expat. community I say: wake up and smell the coffee. Iran is changing, when will you?

Giubm, Tehran, Iran - 20-Feb-2000
Now would be a good time for the U.S. to lift the sanctions

Farshid Jamshidian, London, UK - 19-Feb-2000
Iranians are sick and tried of Islamic rule and laws. But, the so-called "reformers" are and have always proclaimed to be zealot followers of the chief Islamic reactionary, Khamenei himself. We will see new excuses, but no progressive law passed, or regressive Islamic law revoked, by this Majlis. The only positive that can come out of it is that people will lose their illusion of reform within the confines of this repressive regime.

BOB, Denmark - 19-Feb-2000
The election result is a step in the right direction for Iran. I congratulate the Iranians, both in and outside Iran. I hope that this lead to a more prosperous Iran.

Mohammad, Carrboro, NC, USA - 19-Feb-2000
[On Mr Gerami's article on the elections and the economy] As usual, the political analysis is somewhat accurate, but economics is totally absent. The writer ignores the fact that unemployment and sluggish growth can soften the most ardent left wingers. The main problem in Iran is not emphasis of leftists on public policy. It is extensive public sector and ideologically driven decision making. And it seems that even the so called leftists have given up supporting this system. Surprisingly, the traditional right and Rafsanjani may put the fiercest opposition to privatizations. Khatami administration knows that it will lose popular support unless it jumpstarts the economy.

Ali, USA - 19-Feb-2000
TO MKO and Others:
Please Leave the Iranian people alone. We do NOT want you, like you, and have anything to do with you. You are the past, we are looking to the future and you are not part of this future.

Amir, Germany - 19-Feb-2000
azadi-e-andishe ba Hashemy nemishe!!!!

Ali, New York, NY, USA - 19-Feb-2000
They should hang Rafsanjani & Falahian in public for what they did to the people.

'Wellborn', Tehran, Iran - 19-Feb-2000
The people of Iran have clearly demonstrated again their belief in the democratic process by patiently queing and voting. The main shortcoming of the election was the exclusion of candidates which was the fault of the anti-democratic Qum led clergy in the council of guardians , who I hope shall receive their just deserve. I congratulate the government and the people responsible for conducting such an election. The Qom led clergy , more than anybody else ,have been the cause for the unbearable misery and sadness and darkness that has descended on this land for the last 20 years. I hope and pray that the reform process will continue and we will see the day when bright colours, laughter and prosperity and freedom of choice returns to our beloved land.

Mansoureh, Dothan, AL, USA - 19-Feb-2000
This is not a vote of confidence to So-called reformers, but a vote for change. people are tired of this system. they would vote for Satan himself if he comes against this regime.

Ghoorie, Yakima, WA, USA - 19-Feb-2000
I believe in what you wrote Poorie! I put my name as Ghoorie to show my support in hot tea. Hot tea is a part of the Iranian culture and symbolizes celebration. I hope in the near future as Iran improves all ghoories will be turned on in Iran and people will have hot tea together (friends, family, fellow Iranians of any religion and people with different cultures) and CELEBRATE!
They will be celebrating life, friendship, happiness, prosperity, FREEDOM, and THE GREAT NAME OF IRAN! Best wishes to all and Norooz tan peerooz!

Morad, USA - 19-Feb-2000
The only remedy for Iran is to overthrow this Regime with all of it's faction there is no other way Khatami Or Khamenei both are the same criminal and their hands are smeared with the blood of Iranian people down with Islamic Republic Of Akhoun Marg bar Khameni, Rafsanjani va Mola Khatami Raees jomhore Dalghake Akhound ha.

Hormoz, England - Election day
Dear all,
This a great day for Iran , its youth, and the chance for the Mullah Regime to redeem themselves, and show to the big wide world, how progressive they can be in the 21st century. If only they concentrate themselves on the progress and prosperity of the country and the people, instead of binding them to the strict and rigid principles of Islam. Please do not misrepresent Islam, by being rigid and fanatic. March towards that best light which is progress onwards and not stepping back, for anybody. Think of Iran 1st, 2nd and always. Anything that comes in the way of progress, just give it a wide berth.
Best wishes for Nowrooz.

Clement, Brussel, Belgium - Election day
I hope that a new Iran is born
Maybe we have to experience more than a 20 years of suffering to know what is democracy.
love to all

Poorie, Jackson, NJ, USA - Election day
I only have one question.., why are MOST Iranians pessimistic about Iran's future?
Have any of you ever asked yourselves that?
As an American born Iranian, when I went to Iran two years ago I noticed that people only live day by day. They never look to the future with hope. But I believe in the FUTURE that will change as Iran's younger generation takes power.
I'm just upset that i won't be able to be there and see it all take place!

James, Atlanta, Georgia, USA - Election day
This victory is a watershed for reform in Iran. American supporters of Khatami are hopeful he will use this moment of victory to push to eliminate the key barrier to Iranian growth: US Sanctions

Jimmy Saville, UK - Election day
Reform will only be achieved in Iran with a coup where all mullahs will be systematically incinerated and the mosques turned into public convenience facilities.

Farzad, USA - Election day
It seems you are another one of the regimes sites that been put up to propagate the regime. It is ironic that a reactionary regime like IRI is getting so sophisticated. Maybe with the help of Uncle Sam. It is clear that Uncle Sam needs to get more business in Iran!

Payam, Tehran, Iran - Election day
Maybe a lot people voting, but nothing is changing until there is velayate faghih

Shohreh, USA - Election day
You forgot one more credit for Ziba Mir-Hosseini, organiser of Khomeini's
100th birthday celebration at SOAS university stating women have never had it so good until after Khomeini took power. In short a paid stooge
of the Islamic Republic who claims to be an academic but hasn't got a job. It makes me laugh when you introduce her as a woman activist!!.

Who are you people behind IranMania anyway?

Farza Rouhani, Tehran, Iran - Election day
A lot of people waiting in lines to vote their most important elections ever.

Daryoush, Palo alto, Ca. USA - Election day
today is a great day, After so much pain and tremendous tolerance the people are speaking their minds, and voting their choices. I know that the effect of this night, which has kept me awake so late, is unforgettable. I predict a decisive victory, I can see that the elected members are going to feel this atmosphere which is so heart warming, oh the smell of freedom, Democracy, Hail to the true heroes, Forohars, Sirjani,Faroghzad, all the ones who spoke when truth was a death sentence, Loving Iran was their crime, Hail to A. Ganji ,Mr. Baghi, Who are holding the flag for those beloved sons and daughters of Iran, By writing the details about their murderers, Rafsanjani ,Falahian, and etc will pay soon.

Daryoush, Palo Alto, CA USA - Election day
On the Dilip Hiro  Rafsanjani article, Good Article, However you have ignored the crucial role of the chain murders investigations and their effects on Rafsanjani

Phil  Thomas, Esperance, WA Australia - Election day
