station while people line up to vote in northern Tehran 18 February 2000.
Polling stations opened all over Iran at 9:00 a.m. local time to elect a new
parliament, in a battle between reformers and conservatives. Of the country's
more than 60 million inhabitants, 38.7 million are called on to vote in the
sixth general elections since the Islamic Republic was proclaimed in 1979.
